Ohio State Football Parking and Game Day Guide 2026

There’s nothing in Columbus quite like a home football Saturday. The lots start filling before sunrise, grills are going across campus by mid-morning, and by early afternoon more than a hundred thousand people are moving toward the same few blocks of Olentangy River Road.

It’s one of the best days out in Ohio. It’s also, if you haven’t planned for it, one of the most frustrating drives of the year.

This guide covers Ohio State football game parking in 2026: what the lots actually cost, when they open, which spaces are already spoken for before you arrive, and what tailgating at Ohio State really involves. It also covers the part most parking guides skip, which is how you get home afterward when a hundred thousand people all leave at once.

We drive these Saturdays. Binny’s chauffeurs work every Ohio State home game as part of our sporting event transportation service, so most of what follows comes from running the routes rather than reading the policy page.

Ohio State Football Game Parking: The Short Answer

Day-of-game parking at Ohio Stadium costs $30 to $60 depending on how close you are, lots open at 5:00 a.m., payment is cashless, and spaces are first-come first-served. You cannot reserve, save, or buy extra spaces.

That’s the summary. The detail below is where the day is actually won or lost.

What Day-of-Game Parking Costs

CampusParc, which runs Ohio State parking, prices day-of-game lots in three tiers:

  • Premiere locations, $60 per vehicle
  • Proximity locations, $40 per vehicle
  • Non-proximity locations, $30 per vehicle

Payment is credit card or smartphone only. No cash is accepted anywhere.

There’s no reserving your way into a good spot on the morning of the game, and saving a space for a friend who’s running late is explicitly prohibited. What’s open is what’s open.

When the Lots Open

Day-of-game lots open at 5:00 a.m. That is not a technicality. Serious tailgaters are in place at dawn, and for an afternoon kickoff the inbound traffic thickens steadily from mid-morning onward.

The mistake most people make is planning around kickoff. By the time you leave the house two hours early, you’re merging into traffic that’s already been building for five.

Permit Holders Get First Claim

Here’s what catches visitors out. CampusParc annual permit holders park free in day-of-game lots, scanning a keycard or QR code on arrival. On top of that, Ohio State’s season football parking passes are tied to per-seat contributions and Buckeye Club giving, with the full selection cycle only coming around every four years.

In plain terms: a large share of the closest parking belongs to people who already hold it. What’s genuinely available to everyone else on a Saturday morning is farther out than you’d like.

Two more rules worth knowing before you arrive. Re-entry is not permitted, so once you leave the lot you’re done. And you cannot set up any tailgate equipment before 5:00 a.m.

Where to Find an Ohio State Football Parking Map

Ohio State publishes official inbound and outbound traffic maps plus a campus parking map on the athletics site, and they’re updated each season. Check them the week of the game rather than relying on last year’s version, because lot availability and traffic patterns shift with campus construction.

One caution that matters more than the map itself: your GPS will fail you on gameday. Several campus streets convert to one-way flow to speed traffic out after the game. Your phone doesn’t know that. It will route you into a barricade. Follow posted directional signage and traffic officers over your navigation app.

Shuttles and Park-and-Ride

Free shuttles run from about six hours before kickoff until an hour after, connecting West Campus at the Mount Hall Loop to the Neil Avenue Transit Hub near the stadium.

They work well. They also carry an enormous number of people at exactly the same moment, so build the wait into your timeline on both ends.

Accessible parking sits north of St. John Arena and in the Lane Avenue Garage, and requires a current state disability placard with matching registration. The accessible shuttle runs on the same six-hours-before to one-hour-after window.

Where Rideshare Actually Picks Up

Rideshare pickups are directed to Borror Drive near the Schottenstein Center. That’s a real walk from the stadium, through a crowd, at the precise moment tens of thousands of other people are opening the same app.

Post-game surge pricing is not a rumor. Demand spikes vertically the instant the game ends, supply doesn’t, and the wait times shown in the app tend to be optimistic.

Why Getting Out Is Worse Than Getting In

Getting in is manageable if you’re early. Leaving is where the day sours.

A hundred thousand people decide to go home inside roughly the same fifteen minutes, and the lots empty onto streets that are already saturated. Sitting in a parked car for 45 minutes to an hour before moving meaningfully is normal, and on a big game it stretches well past that.

Then there’s the version nobody plans for: you tailgated properly and you shouldn’t be driving at all.

Skip the exit gridlock entirely. A chauffeur waits for your group, in a fixed-price car, while everyone else sits in a lot. No parking fee, no surge, no designated driver. Check gameday availability →

Tailgating at Ohio State

Most people paying for Ohio State game day parking are not just parking. They’re tailgating, and Ohio State tailgating changes what you need from a space.

Tailgating at Ohio State runs from when the lots open at 5:00 a.m. right through to kickoff. Your vehicle and your entire setup have to fit inside an 8.5 by 15 foot space, which is one standard parking space. Only liquid propane grills are permitted, kept ten feet from any structure with a fire extinguisher on hand. Charcoal and wood grills are banned outright, which surprises a lot of first-timers. RVs need a permit through the Ohio State Athletics Ticket Office.

The part worth planning for now: a tailgate is typically six or seven hours of drinking before you’ve even walked into the stadium. Someone in your group has to drive home afterward, and if you haven’t decided who before you arrive, that decision gets made badly at 7 p.m.

We’ve covered the rules, the costs, the timing and the packing list in full in our complete guide to tailgating at Ohio State.

The 2026 Ohio State Home Schedule

Seven home games at Ohio Stadium:

  • Saturday, Sept. 5 vs Ball State
  • Saturday, Sept. 19 vs Kent State
  • Saturday, Sept. 26 vs Illinois
  • Saturday, Oct. 10 vs Maryland
  • Saturday, Nov. 7 vs Oregon
  • Saturday, Nov. 14 vs Northwestern
  • Saturday, Nov. 28 vs Michigan

Kickoff times are set closer to gameday once television windows are assigned. Plan around the date and confirm the time when it’s announced.

The Two Hardest Days to Park

Oregon on Nov. 7 is the marquee conference matchup of the home slate, with a strong chance of a primetime window. Cold, dark, and a long walk back to wherever you found a space.

Michigan on Nov. 28 is The Game, in Columbus. It’s the hardest day of the year in this city to find a hotel room, a dinner reservation, or a parking space. Anything you can arrange in advance, arrange in advance.

Oregon and Michigan book out first Nov. 7 and Nov. 28 are the two dates our fleet fills earliest every season. Reserving now costs nothing extra and takes the hardest variable off your gameday. Reserve for a 2026 home game →

Skipping the Parking Problem Entirely

Drop-Off Instead of a Lot

Our chauffeurs work Columbus gamedays, which means knowing which inbound routes are actually moving and where drop-off is realistic on a given Saturday. You get out near the action instead of at the back of a shuttle queue.

No circling. No hunting. No gamble on whether $50 was worth it for that lot.

A Fixed Price, Not a Surge Price

A reserved car is priced when you book it. That number doesn’t move because the game went to overtime and forty thousand people opened an app simultaneously.

A Designated Driver Who Is Actually Working

This is the real value on a tailgate day. A professional chauffeur removes the designated driver job from your group completely. Nobody sits out, and nobody has to make a judgment call about whether they’re fine to drive after seven hours in a parking lot.

When the Car Stays With You

Hourly, as-directed service works differently from a simple drop-off: the vehicle and chauffeur stay available to you through the day.

For tailgating in November, that changes the experience. A climate-controlled vehicle on site is somewhere to rotate through and warm up for twenty minutes, somewhere to leave coats and bags the stadium won’t admit, and a guaranteed ride that’s already there when your group is finished rather than fighting inbound traffic to reach you.

Not sure which option fits your day? Tell us your group size and kickoff time and we’ll tell you whether a drop-off or an all-day hold makes more sense. No obligation. Get a gameday quote → or call (614) 739-1569

Note for Binny’s: confirm the exact on-site hold arrangement and hourly minimum before publishing. Ohio State’s 8.5 by 15 foot tailgate footprint means a 14-passenger Sprinter (roughly 24 feet) likely cannot occupy a standard tailgate space, so this section should describe wherever the vehicle actually stages.

Choosing a Vehicle for Your Group

Cadillac Sedan, up to 2 passengers. A couple heading to the game, or an executive arriving for a suite.

Cadillac Escalade, up to 4 passengers. The everyday gameday choice for families and small groups, with room for everything they’re bringing.

Mercedes Sprinter Limo, up to 14 passengers. The tailgate vehicle. Everyone arrives and leaves together instead of reassembling a caravan spread across three lots.

The Sprinter is also where the economics shift. Fourteen people splitting one vehicle, against fourteen individual rideshares at post-game surge pricing plus parking for however many cars you’d otherwise have driven, is a different calculation than most people assume. It’s the same reasoning behind most group transportation bookings we take on a home Saturday.

Corporate and Suite Guests

If you’re hosting clients at a home game, the transportation is part of the impression. Guests who arrive relaxed and on time are guests who are present for the conversation you invited them to have. It’s the same standard we apply to corporate transportation and meeting and event transportation year-round.

Round-trip chauffeured service, hotel to stadium to dinner to hotel, keeps the day on schedule without anyone in your party managing logistics. Larger groups often want a combination: sedans for executives, a Sprinter for the wider team, staggered pickups from different hotels. We coordinate all of it centrally so nobody on your team is fielding texts about where the cars are.

Flying In for a Buckeyes Game

Out-of-town fans landing at John Glenn International are about fifteen minutes from campus on an ordinary day and considerably longer on a home Saturday. A prearranged CMH airport car service pickup means your driver is tracking the flight and routing around the day’s actual conditions.

Ohio State University Airport sits close to campus and handles a share of gameday private aviation. Rickenbacker, Bolton Field, and Dayton International are served as well. Full details on our Columbus airport transportation page.
